Message from Chair

Welcome to the UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair at the University of Nairobi. Over the past seventeen years (1997-2013), the Chair has maintained a vibrant and committed Research Team that continues to engage in academic discourse, at the same time, reaching out to communities, both local and International, in order to advance knowledge.

The UNESCO Chair has received immense support from the University of Nairobi administration, UNESCO Regional office in Nairobi, UNESCO headquarters in Paris and the Kenya National Commission to UNESCO (KNATCOM). The Ministries of Education, Health, Culture, Agriculture and Water have been consistent partners in our Research and Implementation.

In order to achieve the goal set out for the Chair, financing of the activities is crucial. Several organizations have consistently supported Research, Capacity building of communities, philanthropy and scholarships. The Chair remains indebted to The Ford Foundation, European Union, DfID, Bata Shoe Company, Action Aid(K), UNDP and the Andrew Mellon Foundation.
