Theme: Corruption as a Driver of Violent Extremism.
The event took place on 25/05/2019 at Kibra Primary School. It converged together six schools, in a talent show that was aimed at displaying the dangers of corruption and urging the youth to fight corruption. Present in the event was an officer from EACC who reaffirmed the institutions commitment into fighting and eventually eradicating corruption. young people present made heartfelt recitations, lamentation on the state of corruption in the country and the dreaded effects if measures are not taken in good time to save the future of the nation from the immense avidity for public resources by some corrupt individuals. Although it proceeded like any other festival with trophy awards for the various categories which included choral and solo verses, spoken words, contemporary dances, skits and set piece, each category portrayed an inward feeling desire to see that corruption is eradicated.
They presented skits that showed how corruption has encroached into homes. The message was that, for us to fight corruption successfully at the top, we have to start from our homes. Children learn to condone it from what they see in their homes. The young students urged parents to watch out for the small activities that might be sending negative signals to their children. It was an eye-opening event especially to the youth as it educated them on the effects of corruption while indicating alternative ways of wealth creation and hence a better society. Ignorance with little understanding of the constitution was stated by some speakers as a great deal booster of corruption and more education should be offered if we expect a better tomorrow with a self-aware population.
The fight against corruption is not age sensitive. Young people were therefore encouraged to be champions in the fight against corruption. The students were encouraged to learn to prevent corruption and not let it progress to far. It’s of utmost importance that young people learn to mold their minds to be anti-corruption. in order for the Country to bring up a generation that can scrutinize, condemn and correct corruption even at levels that are perceived as unreachable.
