The focus of the forum was to count on Youth to validate and authenticate the research findings. The key concern was to determine if youth in Kenya share the same experiences. The youth comprised of university students, we had students from St. Paul’s University and University of Nairobi. Insights gotten from the youth at the validation exercise were slightly different from what we got from the field, during data collection. The youth feel that the society has failed them.

Overall advisory note;

  1. Establish appropriate communication channels for youth.
  2. Capacity build for County Youth Officers. They lack their own scheduled programs.
  3. There is need for designing a continuous civic education program.
  4. Find out if the 3 Counties have County Youth Policies.
  5. Rebooting of youth leadership.
  6. Designing capacity building programs for youth officers. The Counties feel that we can assist them to formulate programs.
  7. Designing a coordination mechanism for youth. They are too many as compared to the number of youth officers assigned per County.
  8. Establishing an innovation seed grant for the youth. They have groups that are organized and functional that we can work with.
  9. Develop and strengthen mentorship programs for the youth. They recommended that it should be left to them to look for mentors. We recommend that they should both do so horizontally and vertically.
  10. Enhance ICT infrastructure. Some County governments already have Constituency Innovation hubs in place. Prof. Mitullah asked prof. Waema to inform the members on the status of the hubs if he was aware.
