Water Harvesting Project: Research Findings Dissemination Workshop at Rombo

The team was led by the UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair, University of Nairobi Prof. Judith Mbula Bahemuka who was accompanied by Eng. Prof Ayub Gitau, Chairman, Department of Environmental and Bio systems Engineering, Dr. Robinson Ocharo, Chairman Department of Sociology and Social work, Dr. Birech and Dr. Mike Chepkonga.

Besides giving the feedback on the research the team also listened to the community, administration officials from the National and County governments, Health and Agriculture sectors.

The well attended and lively session displayed an appetite for knowledge of innovations and technologies employed in water harvesting, marketing of agricultural produce and maintenance of good health practices.

The community seemed eager to learn how to make good use of rain water harvesting technologies. These include; roof catchment and rain runoff solutions.

First on the priorities moving forward will be holding a training of trainers (ToT) workshop early in February this year and organizing an exchange visit to Makueni County where a similar project has been undertaken.

The exchange program will focus on learning of best practices in rain water harvesting, agricultural activities, marketing of farm produce just to name a few.

The Project is a collaboration between the University of Nairobi and United Nations Educational, Social and Cultural Organization, (UNESCO).
