Youth For a Sustainable Culture of Peace and Security in the East African Region

Key stakeholders in "Nation Building" are youth, who, without a doubt, can, and do play a significant role in creating a culture of sustainable peace, security and development. The East African region is experiencing a youth bulge with significant social, economic, and political impact that, in turn, affect peace and security. This calls for urgent attention to the environment in which youth exercise their energy to make certain choices, and ways of meaningfully empowering and including them in the process of creating and sustaining a culture of peace.

UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair Delivers Key Note Address at Thomas J. Bata Legacy Award

The event was themed: “Responsible Entrepreneurship”. The award was initiated to commemorate the Bata’s 100th birthday and also coincides with 120 years of the Bata Group. The Bata Legacy Award challenged entrepreneurs 35 and younger to identify a community need in East Africa and share a creative, viable business solution that embraces the values that guided Thomas J. Bata throughout his career.

“Elimika” & “Wajibu Wetu to be rebranded to “Elimika Wajibika-Vijana Amkeni”

“There is need to rebrand Elimika and Wajibu Wetu into one formidable and inclusive Programme. This rebranding will connect three circles of knowledge that is the University of Nairobi, Elimika and Wajibu Wetu,” said the UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair, Prof. Judith Bahemuka. “The youth programme is centered on facilitating young people’s active participation and engagement with systems, technologies, institutions and governments, towards finding space for expression and growth.”
