The UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair was last evening at one of our collaborators event, The Thomas J. Bata Legacy Award.
The event was themed: “Responsible Entrepreneurship”. The award was initiated to commemorate the Bata’s 100th birthday and also coincides with 120 years of the Bata Group. The Bata Legacy Award challenged entrepreneurs 35 and younger to identify a community need in East Africa and share a creative, viable business solution that embraces the values that guided Thomas J. Bata throughout his career.
The event was held at The Sankara, Nairobi
Prof. Judith Bahemuka who is UNESCO/UNITWIN Chair delivered the Key Note Address. In her address the chair highlighted the zeal, the tenacity and innovative nature of small scale entrepreneurs in Kenya. She underscored that, the Bata Legacy Award gives us an opportunity to celebrate the men and women who venture into this uncharted terrain. It is the vision, determination and their courage that has brought us together.
The chair encouraged the entrepreneurs to embrace the qualities of Thomas J. Bata i.e. value of education, being considerate of other human beings, being men and women of courage and above all being visionaries.
In the past the chair has collaborated with Bata Shoe Company in a project “Working with disabled and Children’s Homes”.
